Default what do you think of this deal

Stopped at the dealer today and saw this deal, 2008 Road King, $16,500., 15,500 miles, tour pak, screaming eagle pipes, heat shields, Stage 1. Very clean . Thinking of trading in my 2008 Fat Boy. Dealer said he would give me $9,000. for my bike without seeing it, said trade in will only go up when I bring it in for him to look over. it is also very clean, Any thoughts?

Around here we generally use KBB values.
'08 Fat Boy trade-in value is $10, 600 in good condition.
'08 Road King retail value is $14, 800 in excellent condition.

So I would want more for the FB and pay less for the RK.
Every market is different though.

thanks for the info. I think the RK price is based on all the after market add ons.

Another way to look at this..

'08 FB trade-in is $10,600
Retail (what you would expect a dealer to sell it for) is $13,300.
Private Party Value (PPV) would be somewhere in between and pricing it on craigs list at the halfway mark means $11,950. If you sold it yourself at that price you would sell it fairly quickly as it's a fair price.

Most people selling on craigs list and other sites smoke a lot of crack, want full retail plus every nickel they spent on pipes and chrome. These ads sit there for weeks and months because they are all firm in their delusional price.

Just saying... you can sell it privately pretty quick if you don't smoke crack and, separately make the best deal you can at the dealership for a cash sale on the RK.

Add-ons don't actually mean much in the 2nd hand market. You do those to make the bike your own, not for resale value. Like adding a pool in your backyard... don't expect to get much of a return out of it when you sell.

The road king isn't a salvage, previous owner traded it on a new ultra.
