3. Sporty is a waste of money. Majority of folks that get one, trade up within a year.

I would have to disagree there. I actually bought my sportster because I like sportsters. I'm not trading it. Besides, it's quicker, better handling, and more reliable than the big twin's. The only thing it doesn't have over the big twins is comfort.

I'd be all over some old Evo in decent shape that needed love.. However, you're still gonna spend more cash on fighting that leak or swapping that cable or replacing those forks or re-gearing that tranny.. It's just the nature of the beast.. They're either a new money-pit or an old money-pit.. The thing in your garage you throw money at. Fun as he!! though when you get that 5 minutes when the old bike is running good to actually ride it.

You can definately find some awesome late model used sporties or, if you get lucky, some5 to 6 year old superglides for that kinda money. I was in the same situation about a year ago. I wanted to find a harley for under 10k. I ended up with a 99 fxd with alot of acc. and in excellent shape with 24k miles for $9K. I changes out the fluids, tightened up all the bolts insatalled a new rear tire and then I put 5000 miles on it this summer with no probs at all. I'm partial to the dynas for handling and comfort and they are an absolute blast to drive. I'm 6'1" so i did,nt quite feel comfortable on the sporty. I hope this info helps you out with your dilema. I live in the northeast so uncle henrys weekly swap/sell publicationgets read religiously and gives ya a good idea what things are currently going for. Check it out at unclehenrys.com
