Default shifting problem

im 06 FXDBI is tough to shift into and out of 3rd. I'm not savy on gears but I just changed the fluid to see if that would solve anything. starting with the easiest solution first. The old fluid was low and very dirty. Don't remember the last time I've changed it. Must be years. anyway, before I changed the fluid it was hard to shift throughout the gears so changing it helped a little. wondering if I need to change the clutch pack or what. anyone have ideas? I'm about doing things myself if I can.

Too much or too heavy oil will cause shifting problems but probably not with one gear.

How long since you adjusted the clutch and cable?

well the clutch cable doesnt seem to be the problem. the clutch is engaging. I adjusted it when I changed the fluid tho. and for there to be a problem in just 3rd seems to be weird. it's like I have to jam it into gear. Sometimes it'll go into N inbetween 4th and 5th gear too. the N light will illuminate too.

Things you could have done were not. It sounds expensive, like you've destroyed the trans from lack of maintenance. If you're lucky, it'll be something bent in the shifter.
