I do love dogs, I just hate most dog owners, but a 7 pounder would feel like coasting across a semi-rough Railroad Track....

If it's me or the dog....sorry, dog. I'd say a prayer for the dog and curse the owner.

 

A caveat as far as animals on the road go....I do give serious respect to Buzzards. Those jokers can hit you in the wrong place at the wrong time, they can get in your "personal" space damn quick. I've been grazed by one, that's all it took.

 

Ran over a skunk. felt like a speed bump and I got away before the spray happened. I keep my line when dogs run out while accelerating. Counter steering is asking for trouble.

The MSF advice is right, MOST times you should be able to do something about it other than run the thing over, but when you can't - stay stable.
with deer it's a different story. And if you come around a corner and there's a kid in the road you better be able to stop. That and my sig..........V

 

If it was one of those yappy little dogs that never shut up, I'da run it over.
