Is this basketcase worth rejuvenating for a novice wrench like me?

A little secret about the 900's....Very few engine cases haven't been TIG welded back together from transmission/speedometer drive issues! Finding a matched set of 900 cases is a Holy Grail search...There is a number (3-digits, a dash, and four digits) stamped on the bottom of each 900 engine case half that determines the date of assembly..If those numbers do not match, it's a sign there was a swapping of case halves...Maybe not important to many but it is important to collectors.

Forgot to mention the ratchet gear on the outer clutch hub when you try to kick an XLCH 900 to life...It works fine until the ratchet gear slips. A painful experience to say the least. Permanent Sportster Leg is also a reality!

Can understand the 69 connection and that you are a Sportster rider. As far as being a wrench what better place to learn. When your done with a project you become connected in way most people could never understand. If it is all there and not just a pile of junk the price is negotiable go for it see what the guy will take and have fun.Every project does not have to be about making a profit, there can be a theraputic value, which pays a bigger dividend.

Lets look at what it might need. Gas tank cleaned or replaced. magneto magnets recharged or replaced. Carb rebuilt or replaced. Tires and brakes. Possible motor or trans work. might have wiring issues. I don't remember if that model had a battery or not? maybe a battery. Kick starter repair. As mentioned Sportster knee stays with you, long after the bike is gone. And last a paint job. Add those things up, and decide if your willing to put that much into a bike that probably will sell for between $2500-$3000 when your done. My 2 devalued cents.,,
