Little bell under the bike

RE: Little bell under the bike
I don't have a bell, I guess I'm supestitious, but I want one. It has to be a gift, so I guess I will see what happens.
As I said a million times before, I grew up in a Christian cult that destroyed my opinion of orgnanized relegion, so that's life IMO.

In the old days, before Sturgis was called Sturgis, you would pay admission price and they would give you a little bell to show that you paid. the sleds back then had lots of demons. when you would stop and help a brother, which everyone used to do, it was customary to offer that person the bell as a sign of thanks. If you ever have your ride worked on be sure to tell the wrench that you have the bell underneath the bike so he wont wonder what that noise is. same custom as the indians used the bells to ward off evil spirits.

The story as I heard it:
Road demons cannot stand the sound of bells ringing, so the bell, attached low on the bike close to the road will keep them off of the bike. Originally the bell only worked if it was given to you by a friend, wife, girlfriend, etc. Now I have noticed that it is acceptable to buy your own bell. Guess the bell people weren't selling enough bells where someone could not buy their own.
A lot of people put them on handlebars, the bottom of fenders, and and foot pegs. I have mine on the frame right in front of the front floorboard on the right side of the bike. Wife's is in the same place.
Mine was given to me by my wife, and I gave her hers. I have 3 or 4 laying around the house, and usually make a gift of one to friends that get new bikes.
I don't hold much with good luck charms, demons, fairies, evil spells, and the like, but it being an old biker tradition, I have one.
Regards,
Bill

I buy into all of it. I love and collect gargoyles. They were placed on old building to ward off evil spirits. My husband gave me a bell with a gargoyle on top. Hopefully it will keep me twice as safe.

Troll Doll, I don't need no Stinkin' troll doll to ward off road demons.
I just have my wife ride with me, the toothless old hag[sm=yikesomg.gif].

That's just a silly superstition. Every body knows the only real way to ward off the road demons is to have a troll doll riding with you!
