JHOYTMADDOX--I agree with DAVE. I think you could have done things a little differently like go to the bank with the guy etc...that would have made you feel better im sure.At the moment i wouldnt lose any sleep over it at all myself.---Also though i would NOT keep calling or contacting the dude...that is pointless at this point. He has done nothing at all to make you believe he is trying to cheat you. Just back off for a minute and let time take its course. Its gonna take several weeks to get this squared away...not to mention if they sat on the title for a week.---its not time to panic yet.

I agree with straydog13, too early to panic. It is not unusual for people to have a lien on the vehicles that they sell. It will take a little time for the bank to process and get the title to you. Although it is possible that the guy will try to f**k you over, it is not likely. Just be cool and let it take it's course. Let us know how it comes out.

I've sold vehicles through my business for twenty years. When I pay off a loan to get the title it has come in a little a three weeks and as long as two months. Never sooner than three weeks though. I had one customer get a little anxious after two weeks and explained to him he could call the bank to see if he could speed things up but he decided to just wait the extra couple weeks it took. I wouldn't worry too much after just two weeks.

1- identify who lienholder is, either from seller or go to dept of motor vehicles with bill of sale, they will have this info.
2-contact leinholder, verify seller (previous owner) has made payoff.
If they have not contact, seller and find out why not. Title work takes quite a while, bank upon receipt of payoff will send the title with a lein satisfaction notice to the original obligor who in turn will (should) send it to you.
Do not let this go on for a protracted period of time.

In NY you can go to the DMV website and check on the progress of a title request. maybe your state DMV has that also.

Way too early to start sweating. 4-6 weeks is about the minimum.

If you don't have the account number or the original owner's social security number I doubt the lien holder will give any information out to anyone but the original purchaser.
