Default HELP!! New bike has "SOS" vin# stamped on neck

Hello ALL,

I am new to the forums and just want to start by saying hello to everyone. I just recently purchased a custom built motorcycle. It was advertised as a harley Fat Boy. The bike has two vin #s on the neck. From the research i did I found that the 17 digit vin# is related back to an Ultima frame. There is also another vin# stamped in the neck that starts with "SOS(XXXXXX)". The Illinois title reads Ultima and vin # SOSXXXXXX. It also says super stock below that. It has an S&S motor on it. The stamp job looks kinda unprofessional. Should I be concerned about this purchase. I bought from a legitiment person. Just seems like the stamp job should be better?? Any info would help. Thanks in Advance.

Could be a salvage bike! They should have informed you of the fact before you bought it!
Do a search for sos salvage!

I would guess it's a Secretary of State issued VIN for a custom built bike. The other VIN is for the frame. If it was salvaged, it would say it in large letters on the title.

Thanks for the help. I guess it is a custom build already approved by the seceretary of state to be on the road. SOS stamped the vin number on neck(by the way it looks like a third grader did the job). they ground the paint off the neck and stamped on bare metal. No one ever touched up the paint. It looks like crap. Im thinking of painting the area so it doesnt look so retarded.

If the VIN on the frame matches the title, I wouldn't worry. On the other hand, if this is a Sons of Silence MC stamp, watch yourself.

It is unusual for a secretary of state office to issue VIN's.
