defensive driving rules...2 lane blacktop no one coming at me no one behind me, I hug the center line. Traffic coming at me I hug the right side so oncoming will see me should they think pass one another. Folks behind me, hug the right if there no oncoming traffic so they can pass should they want. Common sense goes a long ways.

Mostly the right lane; I find my groove and go with it.

Take a look at where the the motor cops ride. Two lanes each way - left half of left lane - you now have 4 lanes to escape if needed. One lane each way - left half of your lane - if a car wants to pass - he has to change lanes - not take part of yours.

Remember this - left foot is clean foot when stopping - right foot is dirty foot when stopping. Position yourself accordingly and leave enough room you can escape forward when the moron behind you decides to come sliding in behind you. Always stop with your clean foot down....paul

Depends on the roadway & conditions. I usually ride on the least shitty part of the lane. Bumps & road patch on the right, I ride in the middle or left, etc. At night, I try to stay to the right - more visible to oncoming traffic.

When group riding, if I'm an odd number, I ride on the left - even number, on the right, basically.

Lots of great input for a newer rider.

I use the lane that gives me the best "out"... so that means I'm changing lanes quite a bit as conditions change.
