used bike pricing at dealers ? ? ?
i was at a dealer yesterday picking up some parts..so i wandered over to the used bike area just to browse (always interesting to see what guys have done to there bikes) so they had a few street glides..a 2010 and a 2011..... so i check the tag on the 2011 it was vivid black and STOCK..i mean so stock i'd bet it was a rental bike. the 2011 had 7,000 miles on it and the price? ? ? ? $19,999
I thought, wait a minute...what does that cost new again...so i walked over to the NEW bike area and guess what $19,499 thats $500 less then the 2011 used? of corse there is freight and prep but ????

I have seen that too when i was looking for my bike. salesman told me after the new bikes are gone you will pay the price. Of course he was wrong i walked out and bought a bike at a different dealer.

It's all broken in. And all the bugs worked out. Because you won't be bringing it back for service they have to get your money upfront. JK

Pricing a used bike like that makes the new bike more attractive. That's product positioning in action. The dealer sells a prospective used bike shopper a new bike, that's where they make the MoCo incentives from.

Street Glides also are the "Hot" seller right now, so the dealer is less likely to price it attractively. But only $500 less than MSRP for a 2011? It would have been fun to torture the salesman on that one!

BTW-stopped in a dealer like you did recently and kicked around the used bikes. Imagine my horroe when I saw a GOLDWING parked in amongst the ElectraGlides! I tortured the saleman on that one for a while. Poor guy finally had to "go on break". I felt bad about it, just a little. Wasn't his decision to put it there. (:
