Tire Warranty Question

Tire Warranty Question
Another thread in the touring section made me wonder about my extended warranty with tire/wheel protection.
Hopefully one of you will know. I could call the dealership, but they just want to sell you the OEM tires. Will the tire coverage cover any tire I put on it? Or does it have to be OEM and HD dealership installed tires??

I've had two rear tires replaced under the tire/wheel warranty and that question never came up.The first time they did not have the narrow white wall that came on the bike and offered me a blackwall but other than that I can't help, sorry.

On a road trip a few years ago I picked up a nail long enough to go in the tread and out the sidewall. Called HOG for a tow, closest dealer was 55 miles away. Tow truck driver gets there, tells me about an indy shop 4 miles down the road. I told him to take it there. I paid for the new tire so I could get back on the road.
After I got home I called the warranty company. Short version of the story is, I mailed them a copy of my receipts for the tow and the tire. They paid for the tire and labor and all but $50 on the tow. My regular vehicle insurance picked up the outstanding $50 on the tow. Final total for me was zero out of pocket.
I was up front with the warranty company and didn't try to B/S them, I think that helped in getting everything covered.

I didn't get either, but talking to some others that have got the tire protection,
I wonder how hard is it to drive a nail in the tires so the warranty will pay for the new ones..?? At least that's what I heard some do.
