Default Can cig lighter plug be used for gps?

What the question says....can the fairing cig lighter plug be used to power a gamin gps which typically would plug into a car outlet? Harley says no in literature....I'm guessing liability reasons. I have a ram mount for a gps and would like to just occasionally cig plug it.......thanks!

Just run a wire to your battery with inline fuse and you don't have to worry about fugging anything up. I run my cig lighter on my dyna strait off the battery with inline fuse off the battery tender plug.

I use a cig plug to hook in my GPS. I picked up an adapter from Radio Shack.

I use mine to run my GPS. Had to switch the wires on the lighter first. Have to make sure the hot wire is on the center and the ground is on the outside of the plug first. Mine works like a champ after that.

It's an option, but the better option is to get the wiring harness & hook into bike's electrical...

I bought a marine cig lighter for my Garmin 550 and it has worked well for years rain or shine.

No reason not to. A cig lighter draws far more current than any electronics you'll plug into it. H-D probably says no because they'd prefer that you purchase and install an accessory socket.

I ran my power wire for the GPS down the handlebars and thru the hole in the fairing that the clutch cable runs thru. I hard wired it into the power wire for the lighter with terminals that I had here from other electronics and have had no problems since.
