Anyone else dislike the automatic turn signals?

I have 2006 1200 sportster low, just got it and don't know anything about it, auto signals work really well, shut down after each turn.
Bombay suggests they might work by an accelerometer, does anybody really know how they work? I thought they might have a balance switch, no? mossenheim

I hate them for this reason. Making a right hand turn at an intersection, I turn and find a vehicle waiting to pull out of a driveway ahead and my turn signal is still flashing, indicating to the vehicle I'm turning in off the street, when I'm actually continuing straight with the damn signal on! Car pulls out, wham. "Gee officer, his signal was on to pull in the driveway". Give me manual switchgear and I'll be responsible for my own safety.

I've noticed that the self-cancelling signals work better on my '07 Road Glide than the ones that were on my previous '00 RG. HD has improved the "logic" in them as the years have passed.
However, I liked the self-cancelling signals on my 1990 FXR better (it had the 1991 module installed as an upgrade). Back then, the signals flashed 15 times after you "let go of" the button. Hold it down, they'd flash continuously, let it go, and they'd cancel after 15 flashes. I thought they worked more predictably than did the "improved" module on the 2000!

Mine work great. After years of push to cancel indicators, I much prefer hd auto cancel signals. If they stay on in situations like harleyboyddk described above I just push them manually to turn them off early (like a push to cancel rig). Otherwise they are awesome.

Dude, you might as well have said to hold another mans.....until the swelling goes down. You would've gotten the same response from some people....

whether your t/sig light is flashing or not, it is the driver pulling onto the main road that has to make sure of the actions of a oncoming vehicle before proceeding.. at least thats what i was always taught and what i taught my kids. never pull out with a car coming with turn signal on. they could have no idea thats its on and it will be your fault for pulling into oncoming traffic.
i like my auto cancel signals. the yaw sensor seems to work just fine coming out of turns and accel..
