Brands such as red line are group 5,amsoils offerrings are group 4 except tge oem line and the XL line.
Real group 4 and 5 oils are super expensive. Expect to pay at least 10-15 dollars a quart. Group 3 is much cheaper to produce and can be found for under 10 bucks a quart.
I hope I helped clear it up a bit.
In north American the term synthetic doesn't really have anything to do with the oil,its a marketing term. In Europe a labelled syn has to be minimum group 4. That's why you will see oils with "synthetic technology" and similar marketing crap on some bottles.
If you see bottles market "European car formula" they are and have to be minimum group 4 base as well
Thank you, that makes sense then.

If you can find the 15w-50 version you can use it instead. Harleys can use any oil with the second number being 50. That is the grade at operating temp. So in reality you can use a 5w-50 in the engines, they will shear a bit faster than a 15w-50 or a 20w-50 but won't shear as fast as a mineral oil.
Our bikes don't have a shared sump so shear isn't really as big an issue for us as it is for the imports. The tranny turns the oil into water from the gears beating the hell out of it.

Ok done venting
Advanced Auto just had Mobil1Vtwin 20w50 for $7.99 and Valvoline Dino 20w50 MC oil for $5.99. You have to watch for the sales and stock up.
