Default Group Riding Poll

Not a fan of large group rides, other than for a charity, as they tend to be slow and boring and sometimes downright dangerous. Yet I would say going alone is not my favorite either. Really just a buddy and myself with similar riding styles is the best, maybe 3, 4 tops. What do you guys prefer?

Interesting question...

I find 2-4 being perfect for the very same reasons you mentioned. Riding alone is boring, but being in 6,7,50 can be hairy if any/all of the group are not like-minded. I am sure those in large clubs/associations are ok with bigger groups because they ride together frequently and have similar riding styles. But when I have done charity rides, I see some wild stuff..

My group that rides is usually 3 or 4 bikes... and we know each other well, so we know how to predict each other's movements/tendencies.

I'm not a fan of groups, but it's always fun going out with a few bikes. Half the time I just like to roll solo.

I hate the accordion effect of large groups. It's even worse when someone in the front has throttle ADD. I'll ride solo with the girlie on back or with a friend or two.

Agree that few is better. The vast majority of my riding is solo and if I do ride with a group it is very small.

I've always heard it's better in a group

Ahhh, then maybe you're riding with the wrong people. We group ride about 75% of the time. There is usually 4 to 6 of us, but we've had as many as 19. We've found that in larger groups, you have to establish a hierarchy with the most experienced rider/s at the top, running the ride. Over the years we've weeded out the dangerous ********, speed demons & heavy drinkers and now have a group of about 15 safe, sensible, trustworthy friends to ride with.
