5000 miles on engine oil. I had a used oil analysis done on the v-twin 20w-50.
I sent the sample to blackstone at 5000 miles on the oil and the additive package was still viable and TBN was over 4.
Blackstones comments were that I could still run the oil for another 1000 miles easily.
This uoa was done on a 96 ci engine with pipes, fuel pak and breather.
Amsoil will go an easy 5000 miles but it's best to get a few uoa done so you can customize a maintenance schedule for your particular bike.

Ive used Amsoil, Syn3, Mobil1 & Redline Synth - prefer M1
Oil change with filter around 5000 miles, sometimes less & sometimes more....
Unless your sitting in traffic idling alot, I dont see a need of doing it earlier

HD says 5000 miles or one year with any type oil. Amsoil says 35,000 miles or ONE year whichever comes first.

Seems like a plan to me.

Does not take a rocket scientist or oil analysis to figure that one out.

Do you guys think a filter change between the oil change would be a good idea?

blackchipjim, change the filter each time. Its cheap insurance for your engine and costs a lot less than a rebuild.

All three holes and a filter every 5000. No need for filter change in between.
