Anyone have any idea what kind of sealant the factory is using on the oil drain plug? I know there is an o-ring as well but you can see the white residue when you pull the drain plug. I have changed the oil on tons of bikes and never used it but this is my brand new RKC

 

I use paste pipe sealant on all my drain plugs, not for a sealant (the O-ring does that) but to extend the life of the threads. Also ALLWAYS- repeat- Allways torque your plugs! Just my .02

 

It's Teflon pipe dope.

If you are really a torque **** you will need to know how to install time serts and helicoils.

I have a torque wrench and plenty of sense...

 

Can't go wrong with this stuff , been using it for years . Thread tape is waste anymore unless it's a real sloppy fit your trying to fill the gap with .

Just have to becareful with the plugs that are pipe threads and don't /won't get threaded in with a torque. My 02 primary case drain comes to mind real fast.

 

No worries. This is not a taper plug like the older primary plugs. I have changed the oil on tons of Harleys and (knock on wood) never stripped on yet. I know the pan is aluminum and the plug is steel...

 

Here's what I use. Or, at least, I did last time. We'll see how it holds up.
