If you're going to change your own brake pads you'll need a 12 point 1/4 inch socket to remove the pin in the caliper.

(My local HD dealer told me it took a special tool that I could only get from Snap-On, went to a local independent who got a good laugh and told me to get the socket from sears for $3)

Do a search for lots of previous posts.

Start by putting together a roadside emergency tool kit which will re-tighten any loose fastener. This should include a basic set of Allen and Torx keys, open and box-end wrenches, and some sockets w/ a breaker bar and a long extension, 6-way screwdriver,...

To this kit you will add torque wrenches, etc.

A 3/8" would probably get you by, but a 1/4 and 1/2 combo would cover about everything, and you could use the 1/2 on your cage lug nuts. I don't have a 1/4 anymore, but I've tightened thousands of small stuff and feel comfortable without it, but for someone without much experience, the small stuff is what you're most likely to break. I'd say never try to tighten brake caliper bolts without a torque wrench, too, never did it myself, but seen some snapped off.

In all seriousness, there's a really good thread posted by guy that bought absolutely everything, including diagnostic tools, to do all the service intervals on his own bike.

I'm too lazy to search for it, but it should be out there. It's the most comprehensive list I've found.

Do you really need the trojans if you have the hammer?
