I run Mobil1 20W-50 V-Twin in all three locations.

All the rest is just personal opinion, noise and pseudoscience.

Running automotive oil in the primary is about the only thing that will change anything because of the effect that the additive package will have on the coefficient of friction in the clutch pack.

Ok I got a screaming deal on Castrol GTX 20w50 5qt jug for $5 bux. Non energy conserving, so I use it in the engine + primary.

Ok, thanks everyone, sounds like running Mobil 1 VTwin is basically the same as running Syn3 in all 3-holes.

Just hopefully the VTwin is better oil, we'll see.

Because there are only two places, engine and primary, to put the oil in a Sporster, not three! And yes it is ok. I thought that's what I was saying. I am glad I have guys like you around to keep me straight! These forums are full of them!

Planetary gear boxes on heavy earth-moving equipment have used ATF for decades. Your trans will live a long life with motor oil if you keep it clean.
So. If you can. Please explain to me why baker, who makes trannies for these bikes states in very big letters on their website to NOT use motor oil in their transmissions and to use gear oil. I think they are built similar to a stock Harley tranny, yet specifically warn against using it in their transmissions.
Gonna stick with shockproof in my tranny, rotella in the primary and whatevers on sale in the engine.

Check me on this but I seem to recall Harley changing their recommendation on Syn 3 in the tranny a few of years ago, maybe shortly after the 6 speeds came out. Can anyone confirm this?

In any regard I use a high quality synthetic tranny fluid in the tranny like Amsoil or Mobil.

Just like the tag line I once read.
If you ever work in an office with Chuck Norris, don't ask him for his 3 hole punch.

Hey, I thought it was funny.
