Kinda feel for your non-riding friends?

My mom always wanted to go to Sicily to see where her family came from and didn't get the chance before passing. My dad harbored a lot of guilt about this for a few years. I wanted a bike since I was a teenager and it took until my 30's to finally make it happen. I have friends in that same boat who talk about wanting to ride but I know it probably won't happen for them (which is fine) but I wonder if, down the road, they will regret it. I envy those of you who have your best friends as your riding buddies.

Funny thing, I retired to a "active adult" community in NoVA because it was just ten miles north of Skyline Drive. I figured being so close to all this fantastic riding there would be lots of retired riders. Wrong. Lots of guys here did ride, back in the day. Not so much anymore. A couple of riders but nobody that's serious.
When I was a kid at least half my friends had scooters or bikes of some kind. It was cheap transportation and none of us had any money. Yet, I was the only one that seemed to develop a life long love affair with riding. Anywhere, anyplace, anytime.
I still feel this way and yes I do feel sorry for all the geezers that watch me head off for another trip to the Smokey's. Some tell me, "I wish I were you" and I hear through the grapevine that others think it. These are guys that did ride, not like learning a new boat.
It's really sad because where I live most are pretty comfortable now, they have the resources to ride for fun, not out of need. And yet out of some fear, they don't. How come? We all go to enough funnerals here. Our time is limited and damn, as geezers, we know it.
I would much rather check out from a heart attack crossing the Big Horn Mountains on one last trip, than rot out in the Winchester Medical Center.
Streeteagle, I'm only a kid at 62 but if you want to ride PM me. Anywhere, anyplace, anytime.

Don't have much in the way of non-riding friends. Maybe a few that I consider friends but don't see them too much. Most of my social life revolves around my M/C. My next door neighbor does want to ride....drools on my bikes all the time.

Got an acquaintance that keeps telling me he'd have a Harley, but his wife won't let him.
I always tell him to bring home a new ElectraGlide. She'll either like it or leave.
Win-win either way.

I agree with row your own boat, but if I really enjoy something I don't say, "hey, share the joy", I simply try to plant a seed in a person's mind to try doing something they may have been reluctant to do. It may be because it's considered dangerous by some people or whatever. It could be riding, scuba diving, sky diving, etc. My main point is do some things(s) that make you feel ALIVE! Don't wait until it's too late & regret that you never even tried something you may have always wanted to do. Remember, life is short & you only go 'round once.
I want ALL the "joy" to myself.

I often get told at different places by a lot of men "I use to ride but my wife will not let me now". Everytime I hear that I shake my head in disgust and ask if that is just an excuse or if it is true? My next comment is that if I wanted to ride, no ex-wife could stop me for long. I don't think riding is for everyone but I dread the day when the ride is over.
