What are you the Harley PC police? My best advice is to get her a cheap metric she can drop 3 or 4 times and not rack up $3000 in repairs. Then sell it a year later and get a HD.

Softtail slim. Have you sat on one yet? This bike is meant for short people. Being 5'5" I was able to put both feet down. No need for a light bike if you can confindently manage/balance the bike. Once you are going there is no need for strength just skill.

I just took the class n they r agains anyone starting on hd, but they get the 250 n others free so, hmmm. I want to also build up confidence. But years on the back of hd so it is odd to not get a 883

Check out the Suzuki Burgman or the Honda Silverwing. Both about 600cc and will pass most Harleys out on the freeway like they are standing still.
They both have an extremely low center of gravity and thus are super easy to handle and inseam length for shorter people is not an issue. Plus, they are fully automatic which makes them both fun and easy to ride.
