Motorcycle Laws and Regulations by state

I don't think anybody is going to change how another jurisdiction conducts business. No LEO is going to reflect back on the day that a biker from out of town really showed him the light on bike mods permitted in another state. Once you sign receipt of the ticket, the LEO is on his way to save humanity from another stop sign runner and doesn't think anymore about you.

Are people really sure they want the feds to set the standards for all 50 states? Think about what's required on military bases for bike riders. Helmet, long sleeves, long pants, boots over the ankle, gloves, and high visibility vest. And you get a full day in class getting OKed with a MC endorsement so you can ride on base. Doesn't matter if your state already has your license endorsed for MC or if you've attended state sponsored MC safety courses every year. Got to do it again. Your fed government could easily require that and more for everyone.
You government thinks they're there to protect you. Do you really want all that protection?

I have thought about this same argument before many times. I do not think it holds water and here is why. If the laws are different from state to state it is not their job to educate us, it's our job to educate ourself and comply. Its a helmet law state or not, if you get caught without one you get a ticket end of story. If your apes are to high, same thing. If the premise is "safety" and they do not ticket you even though its law and you ride 5 miles down the road and happen to cause a 10 car pile up they are liable for dereliction of duty.
That being said, i totally think this sucks. I am all for a universal set of rules be it restrictive or not. It is nice to know what you can and can't do without pulling out a handbook. In 2012 i find it backwards for this to not be the case. I live 3 miles from Kansas (Missouri side). One state is right on red, one state is not. One state is helmet law one state is not. We should not need a handy dandy decoder ring to operate a motor vehicle from state to state...

Thank you for posting. I noticed that some states have N/A about accepting endorsments from other states. What does that mean ? that you don't need a
MC licence in that state at all ? And also Rhode Island is the only state that says NO-so does that mean when riding to Maine I need to get a Rhode Island licence -HUH ?? "Your licence is no good here son, and riding with no licence is ten days in jail or a $200 fine in cash"

I see the sense to the states rights arguments as far as vehicles- it's like the concealed carry permit, it's federally approved but the states can ignore it.
Damned if you do- damned if you don't...

I'm pretty sure that means if you move here, (RI), that you cannot transfer your endorsement from another state like you can a regular drivers license. You would have to take the required class to get your MC endorsement even if you have had it for years in another state. The ones that say n/a maybe don't require a special MC endorsement and can ride with a drivers license.
