Default Crash/Highway bars vs. highway/mustache pegs?

I've got a new-to-me '90 Sporty 1200, solid mount, of course. I'd like a place to prop my feet up. I like the clean look of the mustache bar, but I like the idea of the drop protection of the crash/highway bar. I've seen both on Ebay pretty chaep, under $100. Thoughts?

Pretty sure the mustache guard would protect your bike just as much as a highway or crash guard. I hope it would anyway that's why I bought mine.

Mine fell over a couple times (jiffy stand in soft ground) and my Kury mustache bar saved it and left the bike without a scratch.

I have the mustache bar on mine too. When I went down 2 years ago, it protected my bike from any damage and also kept the bike from coming down on my leg. The pegs took some beating and one of the bolts holding the bars onto the bike was bent but was easily replaced with a quick trip to the hardware store.

I had a deer jump into my headlight at 65 mph, while heeled over in a turn, last June. After the initial strike, the engine guard kept her from kicking the living crap out of me,as she struggled to get off the front forks. When I rode the scoot ('11 Softail Deluxe) to the ground,I just layed up under the bike with hands on the grips, holding myself off the ground, with the engine guard keeping it from crushing me.Skidded maybe 200 feet, with the deer tumbling and kicking, right next to me, all the way. Totalled the scoot, but was completely unscathed.Get one, doesn't matter which style, might be the difference between living and dying sometime.
