You can't use just ANY steel wool. The 0000 will not damage the chrome. If it scares you, tho, don't use it. There have been some other good suggestions here. I'm just telling you what worked for me. It did not scratch or dull the chrome on my pipes whatsoever.

As I stated in my last Post. I do this all day and we have tried everything and the fastest way to get crap off of chrome is 0000 steel wool. I use it on all chrome parts that have some surface rust/oxidation and it works like a charm.

Some times I spray a little Harley Gloss on the chrome to lube it a little.

We would not use anything that would damage a customers bike.

I couldnt find any oven cleaner around the house, apparently we have a self cleaning oven My neighbor had a package of 0000 steel wool though so I tested on a scrap chrome thing and determined that it didnt scratch so I gave it a shot. It took off a tad bit of the very lightest spots but didnt touch most of it. I even tried a little simple green mixed in and it didnt seem to make any difference. This stuff is just evil. I am going to go to the oven cleaner store and try that and maybe the penny next Thanks for all the suggestions.

The best thing that I have found for melted on plastic (a grocery sack in the road) was heat and lots of it. Run the bike until the bike gets very hot then find a high temperature rag (one that won't melt onto the pipes instantly) and wipe off the now almost liquid plastic. It took a couple of times doing this to get it all. But, it was a good excuse to go for a nice long ride...I needed to warm up the pipes to get the plastic off.

I've always used the 0000 steel wool but recently saw an ad/new product in one of my car or bike mags for a hard plastic razor blade & being an old fart I can't remember where. If it comes back to me I'll update the post....if I remember.

Found it...www.scraperite.com is the website.

EZ Off will do it but DO NOT get any on your paint. It will eat right thru paint.

Thats the first thing I tried right when it happened and then again when I got it back home. It doesnt seem to get gooey with heat like you would think.

The trick I learned a few years ago that works great and will not scratch the chrome, grab some aluminum foil, ball it up so there are plenty of wrinkles in it, heat up pipes and use the aluminum foil to scrub off the marks. You may need a couple aluminum foil ***** if there is a lot of marks. The aluminum foil is much softer material than the chrome so it will not damage the chrome.
