Usually the last of July from the smaller dealers, as the 1st of August is when the new models come out, or thats how i always understood it. Dealers want to get rid of the last year model, to get the newer model. Although in todays economy I'm pretty sure most dealers are willing to deal.

Honestly buying used the best time in the midwest is between November and February. Some people just need the cash and the fair weather riders would rather have the cash for another purchase they won't use like a jacked up 4wd truck for the 3 inches of snow we get around here.

I would say end of July, or right before Christmas.

Best time to buy is when you see the bike you want.

Middle of January with about 10" of snow on the ground.

Right now, especially if you can find a left over '11 in the model you want. Buying a Harley is not like buying a new car. There is a little wiggle room from MSRP but not much. Winter is the slow months for most Harley dealers. Come Spring, deals are harder to come by.

For buying new, the best time is when there are still last years models sitting on the floor at some dealerships. AND, after you have called around the country to find the best price you can on the exact bike you want.

My last new bike I got was in March 2011...I knew exactly what I wanted in a 2011 bike and found the best price (including the cost of airfare down there, motel room, food and gas to ride it back) in Florida.

I took that price back to all of my local dealers who had already given me their "Best Possible" price. 2 of them could not meet the Florida dealership price, but one of them matched it and went $200 better!

Looks like it depends on where you live. For those that live in states that have no, or very little winter, it's different for those of us with harsh winters. Up here (I make it sound like I'm at the North Pole, don't I?), late December to late January.
