Default HD Digital Gear Indicator query - help requested

hi All
have recently purchased a harley digital gear indicator for my 2012 XL883L, installed the product as per the harley installation guide, unit is only registering neutral, all other gears are showing as the bar (-), guide indicates that there could be a communication error..... any ideas where to start looking, or any other ideas on what the problem could be...... supposed to be a plug and play product "Yeah Right"..... any assistance would be most appreciated

Very interesting first post. Hope your next one isn't about how you got in some kind of accident and destroyed your bike.

I believe the clutch has to be released to indicate which gear you are in...If it is not indicating while you are underway...I would suspect the clutch switch.

A lot of people find this forum as a result of an internet search when they have a problem with their bike. It's not uncommon for a first post to be looking for information.

Your post count is just that - a count, not the size of your *****. Stop waving it around.

Is it not registering when you are riding? I know that's probably a dumb question but if you're trying to find a gear just by cycling through when it's stopped, it won't work.

Sounds like a "techie" needs to address it.... is there some sort of help phone number to get "voice to voice" with someone from the manufacturer...assuming they would speak your language!

by the way, just noticed on HD website that some models require "updated calibration"..whatever that means. It doesn't say your model needs it but on the other hand you may ask the HD tech at your dealership.

I've been looking at these myself. How did the installation go? Was it a simple matter of bolting the switch on, routing the wire down the handlebar, and plugging it into an existing connector?
