Do they even make bikes or cars with drum brakes anymore? There's a good reason for that.

Even the Ural and Enfield use disk brakes now I think. There may be some small displacement bikes from India that are drum. Maybe some scooters also.

Disk brakes are head and shoulders above drum brakes.

I love drums on the bike, especially the snare. Mounting small toms on the bars is cool too. I'd like to design a combo bass drum/tour pack for storage one day...

Disk brakes have
- more linear response
- less fade with frequent use
- you can brake harder and with more control with disks
- dual disks on the front are better than a single disk too ( less force at brake lever and less grabby ) and harder to accidentally lock up at the limit than a single disk due to less pressure required at each caliper

The only time you will see drum brakes now (eg. Honda Shadow on rear) is when it is a cost saving measure - drum brakes are cheaper to manufacture. Single disks on the front are a cost saving measure too as are single piston calipers. More pistons in the caliper means more even pressure can be applied by the pad over more surface of the rotor.

Drum Brakes have only three advantages over Disk Brakes on a Motorcycle:
1.) Drum Brakes are usually less expensive to manufacture.
2.) As a complete assembly, Drum Brakes weigh less (unsprung weight is less).
3.) Reduced brake dust on wheels

Any other factor: Heat Dissipation, Brake Fade, Rate of Cooling, Water Shedding, Performance as a function of the amount of space the assembly occupies, Serviceability, etc. Disk Brakes trump Drum Brakes . . . by a lot!

As a kid with homemade go-carts, a stick brake you would drag against the tire worked.

As an adult given the choice, I'll take disk brakes thank you.
