Default old guys

I have never rode a bike with drum brakes, does it really make a difference with stopping power on a disc brake, my buddy just bought a piece of **** honda and he is complaining it doesnt really stop to well as he thought it would just wondering if it makes a big difference

Yep! Those old drum brake were bad.

ride a 68 shovel..juice drums on rear..manual drum on front...STOP..whats that? lol...i never tailgate and always on the look for a fast exit

Yep, drum brakes are terrible compared to discs.
And when it rains,,, man you go from very slight braking to locking the wheel, nothing in between!

There is a noticeable difference from discs but that doesn't mean that there isn't something wrong with his brakes or that they can't be improved.
I'd start with checking the pads, cables and linkages. If you care about your friend post the tear and model of his Honda and you might get some better advice.

If he has front disc and rear drum and if he knows how to brake properly (using the front to do most of the work), then no problem. I had a 73 CB350 set up like that back in the day and it worked fine.

Drums will never even come close to disc but he should check the shoes and drums to make sure there they are in good condition. If the shoes are glazed or the drums have a lot of grooves and **** he should have them attended to.
