Been there many times. Anyone planning to go, try to avoid riding it on the weekends. I'm a sport biker but I avoid it on the weekends because of all the racer wannabe's and corresponding accidents and enforcement. Don't let the trucks bother you, they are easily avoided but if one gets in front of you very difficult to safely pass. Just pull over and enjoy the view letting him clear the road ahead.

the 4 horsemen went down there last May and rode the dragon 3 times, once at night, the rest of the 6 days we rode all the other fine roads down there, went to maggie Valley, and a few other fine places, would go back in a minute..had a ball, we did see a couple of trucks, but no big deal, also followed a couple of slower riders on harleys, as we were on, but that is ok to, its just a really neat place to go and a fun road to ride, look up on the ceiling in the great hall and look for the 4 horsemen t-shirt

I live in Blount County, TN home of the Dragon. I ride it often. There are trucks on the road and they do cross over the center line. I wouldn't let this be a reason to not ride the Dragon. Sport bikes are much more of a danger than trucks. As I have said in the past there are many, many other roads that are better rides in the area. I rode a local favorite today and it was superlative to the Dragon in my opinion. Check out Tellico Plains, TN Hwy 68 to Ducktown, Hwy 74 to Hwy 30 (Count the curves there), Hwy 315 to Hwy 39 back to where you started. If your gonna be riding the Dragon I will be glad to send you many other local favorites.

Our group are regulars at the Gap. LOVE the area. We try to visit at least once a year.
I'd like more information on those local roads you're talking about Rocky Top\

I'm familar with 28, 143, and the Skyway. Marysville, Robinsville, Alcoa, Tellico

Funny thing is that I belong to a sportbike site also, most of those guys accept
my harley as a work of art. Here I am slay'n the Dragon in 2005

As much as I love the Phatail, there's NO WAY I'd wrestle this pig through
those twisty ribbons of wonderlust.

Thats me and Hippiechick on the dragon.

Here is a link to a short video she shot with the digital camera over my shoulder.
Look what we see at the end of the video!!!!!

Dragon tamer

HEre is a shot of us at the "resort"

Like it was said earlier, the crotch rockets are wha tyou have to watch out for. And riders on bikes that drag their feet in parking lots. They are dangerous too.

I was down there in early November. The dragon was OK, but had better
rides through Smokey Mountain Nation Park, Blue Ridge, Foot Hills,
Chahola, Etc. Too many roads down there that are awesome rides to
mention. But.........you gotta do the dragon. Or you don't get to wear the
t-shirt. LOL

Redhawk,

Looks like you were having fun on that Sportster.

Mikeeeeeeeeee,

I hope that "station wagon" didn't turn out to be an omen of things to come.
Nice vid, enjoy the ride?
