Ridin in the 70's wasn't cool it was a way of life. Owning a Harley was a quest not just running down to the local stealer and sigining some papers. There was not a million dollar dealership on every corner and the only time your bike was on a trailer or in a truck bed was getting it home when it broke. Ahhh yes and lets not forget the fine AMF Bikes that you would have to have owned one to understand. As for today, just look around and see for yourself.

Didn't read many of the post, but Back in the 60's when I started riding. it was mostly Super Hawks and Scramblers...both 305's was the bike most kids owned in town.

Really hard to beat them.. not all that fast but U could run the chit out of them and they'd just keep going for more...

most of us kids (high school) didn't hang with the Hard core Harley bunch or vice - versa.

Triumphs-BSA's and a couple NORTs where in there own world.. WE each had our own Click at the local Big Boy restaurant.

My Great, Great, Grand Daddy used to say stuff like "what's up with these so called bikers of the 60's and 70's" to me when I was a kid in the 60's and 70's.

I started riding in the spring of 1956. The only real difference that I see today from then is the work on the bike. Then you worked on the bike to keep it going for the next ride. Now, I work on the bikes as much or more but to change/add stuff to "make it your own".

The reason to be on two wheels is the same as always. For better or worse more have discovered the magic of riding motorcycle. I happen to be one that believes it is for the better. When bike makers prosper the product improves.

When the product improves I can ride from my house to the Arctic Circle and back for 9,000 miles in two weeks and not concern myself with anything on the bike. Just gas and go. No way would I want to return to the good old days. People's memories must be bad as they weren't all that good. The best day is not yesterday or even tomorrow, it is today. Tomorrow may not come and yesterday is gone. You can only ride today! So, in NW Illinois I rode 84 miles in drizzle. Loved even inch of the way.

Riding todays bikes are so much more fun than the bikes of the 70's......we dreamed of having this kind of machine back then.....AMF - some folks liked them, not me......I remember most riders had a small crescent wrench hanging off of their belt so as to tighten loose chit up...lol

You could force over & duke out a cager for trying to kill you, & the cops wouldn't even bother to come. Now, you look at someone for more than 8 seconds it's considered harassment.
