gel seat pads

Depends on the gel used, http://www.dannygray.com/FAQs.asp?Q=5
What are benefits of having gel installed in a seat?
At Danny Gray, we use a state of the art alternative to gel. The "gel" we use is actually a viscolastic dry polymer. This stable solid is not a liquid so it will not leak; get as hot in the sun, freeze, or ruin the seat cover like other gels will. Our gel distributes the weight of the rider evenly over the surface of the seat to relieve stress points. The gel forms to your body reducing pressure points and increasing blood flow to help prevent "numb butt" syndrome.

I can tell you they do work great. Anything over 300-400 miles the sheep Skin covered gel pads go with me. I made a few in both grey and black!!
Word of warning - Don't leave them in the hot sun and jump on!!
It will burn your ***......

When I rode to Datona the first time (2001 fxst), I duck taped a foam pad to my seat (Mustang wide solo) to make it more comfortable. While there I had a gel pad installed. The best money I ever spent!
Fast forward to 2010, new bike, flstsb (bones). I tried everything before I installed a gel pad in the stock seat. It made no difference to the way the seat felt. The solution was to get a HD 1925 tractor seat.
As you can tell from the responses, the gel pad works some times and other times not. I would suggest you try the strap-on type. If it works you can insert it into your seat yourself.
