Helmet Thieves
#41
I have not lost one but my friend did on a trip and it was a pain in the butt! I wear a short helmet but it is Kevlar/carbon fiber and cost over $150.00, so I used to carry it around if I stopped but I picked up a little cable lock that pulls out (spring loaded) of out of it's own small self contained package (all 1 piece). So now I put that cable lock thru the helmet, turn it upside down under the front forks and lock it to the bike. I put the cable thru the frame and the brake rotor. So far so good. only costs 6 bucks and it stops the quick theft crap by morons...Ride safe!

People around here will steal your garbage- but I leave my nasty *** helmet on the bike all the time. Some freak wants it he can have it, but no takers.

Went on the flood run here, left my helmet on the bars, no one messed with it. Seriously, would a person steal a helmet worth as mine was, worth an $ 50 bucks, worth an axx whooping??

I don't lock mine, but I know that every time I leave my helmet on my seat or on my mirror, it's up for grabs. It's the first thing I look for when I return and see my bike sitting there. Last year, I broke down and bought a nice helmet, so I might spend a little more coin to get a lock for it. I sure don't want to carry it around with me. But, like others have posted, if someone wants to put up with my dander and stink, then they get what they deserve.

Around here in Melbourne/Rockledge isn't that big of a deal, but if I'm in Cocoa then I usually take the helmet into the college with me. Shady area around there.....

I never leave an exposed helmet with the bike because I don't want any nasty surprises like cigarette butts in it when I get back; same for car windows, always up - had a seat cover ruined by someone donating a lit butt once. Doesn't matter how tough you are, they'll do it when you're not around. When I'm riding with a trunk, I'll leave it locked in that. When I spend over $100 for something, I usually take care of it. If you come back, and it's all wet inside, did someone dump some soda in it, or...?
