I knew a guy that bought an older Goldwing (not sure what year, 80something I think) for a couple hundred bucks and stripped it down. Basically made a Goldwing bobber out of it. No plastic, custom paint in white & burgundy... ended up with a pretty sharp looking bike. He said it still weighed a ton but "ran like a raped ape."
I'd still rather have my Street Bob though.

Not only are those lumbering behemoth looking machines very FAST but in the hands of a good rider they are also very nimble on the twisties.

It's not the same engine in the VTX and the GW, if that's what you meant. The GW is quite a bit quicker than the VTX if I remember correctly.

Hubby's VTX has the 1800 engine and that thing moves. It is a beast though and feels long & heavy to me...I have only riden it a couple of times...Just not comfy on it but hubby loves the power.

I did my time on Gold Wings, and they're fast, BUT, the absolute baddest touring bike I've owned was a first generation Yamaha Venture. They had a "slightly" detuned V-Max engine, and all you had to do was re-route a couple of hoses to get the V-boost in full effect. It was like a luxo tourer with the heart of a zoomsplat. It would handle, too. Throw it a little counter steer and plant your knee puck. Good times.

What year is your Venture? I don't know if you can do it on the second gens or not. Go here: http://www.venturerider.org and search for "the jason mod".

I'm thinking about getting a 'wing for my 60th.
That'd be a good "welcome to old" present!

Yeah, they will always outrun you but you will always out cool them on the Harley! [8D]
