Disappointed
After reading many, many posts of how great Jake Wilson was for tires, I decided to order a new back tire for my bike from them, since the price was right. I received the tire within the time frame for delivery and so far, all is well. I checked the manufacture date and the damn thing was almost 3 years old. In fact, the new tire is older than the one I am replacing.
Since I usually wear out the back tire in less than a year, I will go ahead and mount it, but still I am very disappointed, and will not buy another tire from them. I have bought several tires from Dennis Kirk and American Motorcycle Tire and none of them were over 6 months out of the factory to my door.

Only tires I ever ordered online, I specifically asked them what the date on the tires I would be receiving were. I had seen this happen to friends buying online. Sucks but that's how they get rid of there old overstock.

Tires
As tires set they lose the oils from with in. That tire then can start to get hair line cracks in the sidewall and could come apart. I worked for a major tire manuf for 10 years. When ever I buy tires for my bike or anything else look at the date when it was made. On a bike tire if you can take a bright light and flex the side wall you can really get a good look. If you see cracks it's called ozone cracking.

Tires age, especially if exposed to sun light or temperature swings. Some people worry about in more than others. FWIW I bought a tire from JW over a year ago and it was less than 6 months old.

Also forgot to mention becareful of putting on certain tire dressing. It will actually draw the oils out of the tire and speed up the drying out process. Now this will take a long time.Just fyi.

Eric did a good job on aging tires being a problem, so I will leave it be. The tire was not used, but it still ticks me off about it being older than the tire I'm replacing.

I thought about it, but it will be worn out before it needs to be replaced due to age. They did, however, loose a customer.
