MMI/UTI School?

Just got a 2012 Softail service manual for 65 bucks from the dealer. It has everything you need to know. Buy one for your bike.
I have a friend that went to MMI in Arizona, went to work for Kawasaki for less than a year and figured out he did not like working on bikes that much. He now owns an auto paint and body shop. The tuition he paid for MMI was a waste.
The one friend I have that owns an indy shop never had any formal training. He started working on bikes as a kid like we all did ( we all raced motocross ). He has had follow up training while he has owned his shop, but being a motorcycle mechanic was just natural for him.
I would not pay the tuition for MMI unless I wanted to work on bikes for a living. I would work for a shop for at least a couple years behind the parts counter or whatever and feel it out first. I thought I wanted to be a mechanic when I was younger, but my path changed after I joined the Army. Now I could not see myself working on bikes for a living even though I loved it when I was younger.

Service manual, you tube, and a decent set of tools and lift is pretty much all you need .. And maybe a buddy who knows a thing or two about wrenching that can help you out.
If you want to **** 25k down the drain you can just send it to me

I am new to riding and recently purchased my 2011 Iron 883. I have absolutely fallen in love with riding and have found a new lifelong passion.
That said, I have a full-time career and have no interest in getting work in the auto technician field, however want a way to learn about motorcycle repair form the ground up. I have no mechanical background and do not even know how to change my oil. Is MMI a good option for someone like me, or do you recommend a more economic solution?
