Riding With Music
#52
For our recent road trip I used earbuds, 200-300 mile days, all two lane hwys. However didnt like having to start off loud and not being able to speak to OL (if required). I have now brought a HD Boom Windshield sound system which I hope will help. When in town and doing short journeys I run without the windshield, but dont listen to sounds so no problem there, but when on the open road on goes the shield so I can have tunes anytime I want without having to decide before I set off.

I sometimes use earbuds in both ears with my Droid X phone. Used to have an Ipod that I used. Works well or me. Sometimes I'm not in the mood for music and just want to hear the bike. It's never been a distraction, just depends on the mood.

I think the great thing about using a mobile phone for music on the bike is things like Pandora. I get tired of most of the music I have downloaded, but with Pandora, which is free, I can create my own stations and listen to whatever I want, almost commercial free. Its almost like having satellite radio. There are a few other options that are free like Slacker radio and others. Its a great option if you are tired of the same old music all the time.

Pandora is OK... but sometimes their choices of what is similar to the artist you've chosen leaves a lot to be desired. I use it at home occasionally, but it doesn't really compare to sat radio.
Finally got all of my CDs converted to MP3, so now I have about 70 GB of tunes to choose from.

Only on long trips (e.g. Sturgis) out and back. I got the custom molded ear phones, ran a stereo line from my windshield bag under my tank exiting on the left side of the seat. Hook into one side with ear phones, other end my Droid. Put a cheap lighter/power point on the handlebars to keep the Droid charged. Minimal clutter and knocks down wind noise. Just make sure music isn't "too" loud, or defeats the purpose. Around town/country, I'd rather be in the elements and listen to my scoot.
