Perfectly said. Sheesh. Fill it to the top and move on with your life.
What's with trying to get an extra shot glass of gasoline anyway?

'nuff said.

Like others have said, just stop when the gas reaches the little hole and push down as you screw the cap back on. That's what I do and never have any problems that way.

Dont have any problem on our 07 Heritage. Don't ever remember any leaking out either. Don't have the splashing out problem at fill ups either, I just put about 2-3 inchs of the nozzle in the tank till it shuts off and then top it off slow.

Once I did had a frigging gas pump that wouldn't shut off, had to bump it on the driveway to get it to shut off,. I was Pi$$ed on that one, about a gallon ran all over the place.
When I went inside to tell the kid behind the counter he said, oh we've been having a problem all morning with that pump.

I told him to put a freaking Out of Order sign on it, he just said he didn't think of that.

Yeah, I called the store manager.

I hope you learned your lesson about relying on the automatic shut off that day. Your post should have read "I used to use the automatic shut off until I dumped a gallon of fuel all over my bike and me one day. I discovered that no-one at the station, including the owner give a s&*t. Now I just fill it up manually to the top of the hole."

I can't even fill it to the hole everyone is talking about. The instant I stand up the bike it comes flowing out. I always have to push HARD and turn till it won't tighten anymore.
