Harley offers voluntary layoffs

Nothing new really......easiest and fastest way for a flat lined Corporation to attain there goals is to cut people. Can't re-tool or cut infrastructure and people are the only expendable resource. My ex-railroad does it all of the time, lay off then rehire, lay off then rehire.... it never ends. I always wondered why we never worked on efficiency to reduce costs. We were known as the biggest poorly run railroad by the Wall St. Journal, and sadly most of us agreed.

Our company does it all the time as well, and always get some that are will to take time off for one reason or another, and it spares some who can't afford it to continue earning a check.

I'm not so sure I'd want my next $20K + bike built by "temporary, seasonal workers." If Harley hires back the same ones laid off is one thing, but I have a vision of a bunch of untrained unemployed laborers down at the unemployment office all of a sudden working on a production line....

Please. The union has got the manufacturing part of this bike building stuff so dumbed down a chimp could do it. What does it take to learn to use an air rachet set to a torque setting and pull the trigger til it doesn't turn anymore. Not like it's a skilled trade
