I use the HOG for the Road Atlas & tow insurance. I do also have other insurance. IMO, that's the only thing I need them for.

Seriously speaking, I have rented a bike a few times through HOG Milwaukee office with USD 100 per day including the insurance. If you are living by the north pole like me and you like to ride in Utah and Arizona, then it pays itself quite fast.
Now this might be something. I am going to a week long family reunion in Maine in June and was planning to fly to Boston and rent a bike near by. I'll check on that feature to see how much it saves me. I was also thinking about flying to Las Vegas this Spring to do Arches, Moab, Zion, North Rim, Monument Valley etc. If I ride down, it would add 3 days both ways. I'm thinking of flying and then spending a full week cruising in the sun (and wind)

Thanks for the comments from active HOG members. I guess you answered it for me, if you use it for insurance or ride actively with your chapter events, then it makes good sense. If it gets me savings on a bike rental and insurance in the Boston area or in Las Vegas, then it makes sense for me.

I left ours drop a few years ago and I still don't miss them! I only ever tried, and I do mean tried, their roadside assistance once. The sad thing was I couldn't get through to them. I was on hold and on hold and on hold for about 30 minutes. I then decided to buy some duct tape and bailing wire and away we went.

I'll stick with my riders insurance for roadside assistance.

If you want to join a local HOG group you have to belong to the national. Thats the only reason I belong.

My primary reason for HOG membership is the towing. I've used it twice payed for itself considering it cost me about $250 for each befote I had it. My other option was AMA.

I have the free membership that comes with a new bike and I have not used it at all.

As for the road side assistance, I have it through the warranty period as all do, I have it through my insurance, and now I just found out through the HOG membership. Any idea if any of these will cost share and make road side assistance totally free????

I am thinking about going to a HOG rally next summer, but not real sure yet.

I have a feeling I will wind up spending more time riding with the local group around here, which is just a bunch of friends.

I could see a group get together from this forum like another forum I belong to that is already having a national meet up next summer.

Other than the rallies, if I go, I don't see the benefit for me.

At first I thought that it may have some future value being a HOG member.
However when I'd seen the monthly rag they send out featuring some stupid art work publicizing Che Guevara image. I sent them an e-mail wanting to know what their intentions were. I told them that they won't see another dime from me for publishing the image. They sent some response back po-pooing it off.

IMO let the thing run out. You want towing package and a map, go to triple A club.

25 years ago I bought a new Harley. It came with H.O.G. membership. At that time H.O.G. was doing some interesting shows/events. I got a "LIFETIME" membership for $100. Sounded like a good deal. It got me into H.O.G. events at a discount, & all the other things mentioned here. 25 years later I still get an envelope full of pins & patches, miniaturized road atlas', & junk. I throw it all away, & can't get 'em to stop. Your choice, but it ain't worth much...............

In Australia, being a member of a group such as HOG can get you a discount on insurance and Roadside assist is a good thing to have. But unless you are active with a local HOG Chapter and/or join their rides, you don't get much value from HOG membership.

Years ago I decided to buy a life membership for my wife and myself. The rates were going to go up and I figured that in the long run it wold work out to be cheaper. You have to be a HOG member to be a member of your local chapter. We did a lot of Monday night rides with the local chapter, diners, parties, picnics, and a few local HOG Rallies. We have our bikes covered through Harley insurance which for us was cheaper than any other insurance companies that offer the same coverage. The dealership was sold to a new owner who ended up firing everyone who worked there for years and brought in all new help that they trained. He didn't allow the help to socialize with the customers, it was all business or nothing. His prices went through the roof. Sorry to say I don't do business with this dealership any longer as well as a lot of other people I know. I do not participate with the local chapter because it's sponsored by this dealer. If your a full life member you can get a 17% discount through AT&T wireless monthly service charge for USA members only. I have a box full of pins and patches that I have never used. Do you know what it would cost to have all those patches sewn on to leather? So if You use the benifits then it's probably worth it, if you don't why bother. We don't enjoy being HOG members like we use to with all the activities but we like the benifits that HOG offers.
