Default Dealers search for bikes?

I was all set to buy a Vivid black Limited, when a buddy told me about a left over 2011 Silver and Black Ultra at another dealer. Can H-D dealers search and see if there are any vivid black ultras out there? Kind of like auto dealers do. I'm all about saving money if I can, but truth is i'm still up in the air between a Ultra or a Limited and the savings on a brand new 11 would have to be thousands.

Yea they can

I got my RK on a dealer to dealer trade. They had a similar bike, but I wanted different options. They looked it up and had it the next day.

Yes Dealers can do a computer search for you for anything that HD sells, then buy it or do a trade with another Dealer.

I've often wondered how this works with bike dealers as opposed to car dealers.

The dealer I bought my current bike from, took about six weeks to get it from the plant. There was a couple other dealers within a 100 mile radius that had the one I wanted, but were nowhere near the price my dealer was. Odd, but every dealer other than the one I bought from, told me they could locate a bike if they didn't have the exact one I wanted. But yet the dealer I was going to buy from told me they do not do that. They never really would give me a real answer why.

Anyone have any insight on this?

They have rules on how many they can trade with other dealers and HD.
I over heard the owner and the head sales man talking one about it . He mentioned they could only trade two more did not hear it all but. It did seem there was more to it than just swapping with another dealer in many cases

You can go to the Harley Davidson website and search for bikes, by year, model, price, distance. You can find the bike yourself.

Oh, sorry, I guess that is only for used bikes. You can see the new bikes in inventory at the individual dealer's websites.

It's all about relationships between dealerships. If Dealer A has the bike you want there is no incentive for them to trade it to Dealer B and help them make a sale when you might ride over to Dealer A to buy it
