Look at his other post. He just bought his first HD ( a sporster ) So cut him a brake, and now he's a baddass looking to join a club??? To the OP. Just head on over to the HA clubhouse see what they have to say, then head on over to the Outlaws and tell 'em your trying to compare them to the HA guys you just met. Then have your next of kin let us all now how it worked out

Another example of where regional descriptions and definitions don't fit across the geography. Someone posted NYC isnt NC so dont bring that attitude. Yes and No. There are no hard rules or standards for what constitutes a 1% club. There are some regional consistencies, but travel 300 miles and the its likely to be different. The simplest analogy I can think of would be "talking BBQ" across the US. One definition does not carry forward to all areas.

In the NYC area you have an abnormally large number of 1%er clubs. (Not talking about Big 4/5). In "most" of the US similar looking clubs would be defined as traditional 3pp fraternal orders. Maybe what the OP is asking about is a traditional club, but he calls it 1% "because that is the more common NYC club".

There are probably more than a hundred 1%er clubs in the US but most people can only name half dozen or so. In Texas we have at least 5 (I can name) different 1%er clubs yet 96 out of a 100 TX patch holders can only name one. But if you took NYC's regional definition of a 1%er club, there would be a dozen more in Texas. Not talking about support clubs, but traditional 3pp fraternal clubs.

1%er, support, 3pp fraternal, veterans, service, 3pp mom n pop, mom and pop, riding clubs/assoc., faith based, associations, ownership groups, etc etc etc. Each of these have vast differences. Of these fairly common definitions the 3pp fraternal order is often 1%er in NYC.

 

Being a member of any club may not mean that you'll have a chapter right down the street...sometimes you have to put on the miles to show commitment and intent.

First move there and talk to some independent shops, they'll point you in the right direction..
