When I bought my 05 I had to look all over the country before I was able to find the model I wanted with a carb. Had to buy it from a dealer all the out on the east coast. Glad I waited until I found it. Won't buy a new one since they went EFI only and any used I buy will have a carb.

I noticed that on the showroom floor years ago; all efi bikes. When I asked the owner of the dealership he said that HD "encouraged" them to get EFI bikes unless there was a specific request for a carb...also, the dealer would still "own" the bike after the sale as it would require computer/dyno tuneing to upgrade power and also would help prevent people from removing factory exhaust..of course we've figured most of that stuff out now...I'm still comfortable with gravity and air pressure instead of man-made electronics; but I know my days are numbered. EFI also allows a lot more customers to participate in the expierience because of it's relative ease of operation compared to a carb.....can't make things too simple and comfy for most people.

If you really want a fairly modern motorcycle still with a carburetor prolly should buy it pretty soon. Personally on models where both are available I appreciate the many benefits of FI on motorcycles. Especially now with ethanol being in most gasoline.

Carbs have been around for a long long time, and I think they were perfected just before Harley came out with EFI. The carb on my 99 Softail Custom works extremely well. I know how to adjust it, and work on it. I am to old to learn EFI. I have enough trouble with my PC and my cell phone. LOL. I do all the work on my bike. I suppose if you don't do your own work then EFI might be alright. But, then, I can adjust the idle on mine with a screw driver.
