Default Disconnecting negative battery for winter storage

So I changed my oil and filled the gas tank up with gas and some stabilizer for the winter, to disconnect the negative battery I just undid the nut on the crankcase and removed the 3 wires that were attatched is this suitable or do I need to remove the seat and disconnect the negative cable at the battery terminal?

Uh, shouldn't you be disconnecting the hot wire?

...as a rule you always remove the (-)Neg first. Anyone who has welded a wrench to the frame can tell you.

I take my batteries out completly and store them inside. Worked for 15yrs, i have yet to replace a battery or charge one after storage.

If I was going to disconnect batteries to store something. I always end up disconnecting negative then positive. I also remove the battery completely then.

Battery tender will keep battery warm, and charged at the same time.
