I want to drive a Harley
Hi All,
I'm seriously looking to learn to drive a motorcycle. I'm a 39 year old male, 6 ft, 220 pounds, single, with disposible cash and a desire to ride a bike and not just any brand, I want a HD.
I live in Ontario, Canada. He we have a graduating licensing system. Passing the written test gives me an M1 standing at which point I would go for driving lessons. Upon passing the 1st driving test, I get an M2 rating at which point I would feel comfortable enough to purchase a motorcycle. Lessons start spring of 2012.
I've done the other important necessary investigation at making this a possibility by picking a model, and phoning my car insurance company and asking them for a quote. I've been quoted $2100 a year for insurance.
I don't know much about bikes, but I know what I like and right now, I'd like to get a HD V-Rod Muscle. I have the cash available to purchase a new 2012 model.
My question to the experts here is, based on my weight and size am I biting off more than I can chew with the V-Rod model???????
Your comments are welcome. I'd like to familiarize myself with all that goes with riding one of these great machines.
I would be driving this bike mostly on side roads, city streets, and in the country side where my parents reside in Niagara on the Lake, Niagara Falls.
Thanks guy.

It'll be fine. Go learn how to ride in classes and you'll soon be comfortable on the bikes they use in class. Then you'll test ride a Vrod and realize its much heavier but you will soon get used to that. Then you'll get more comfortable and you'll open up the throttle and life begins again. Have fun

$2,100 a year for insurance????? Holy crap dude. I'd drop that company in a heartbeat and start shopping around before you buy the bike. I'm paying $55.00 a month for full coverage.

I pay $260 a year for full coverage. State Farm.

My question to you is, how old are you and how long have you been driving a motorcycle?
I'm wondering if maybe the reason you're seeing good rates is due to your experience. I don't think we're in the same class when it comes to experience and that counts for a lot.
