You never want to let the bike move forward even a little when you put it on the kickstand. I don't trust the lock.

That sucks, had mine fall over (away from the stand) because the former owner lowered the bike but did not shorten the stand

Did it roll forward or did the stand break?

If it rolled forward then it's not really the stand's fault.
I park the bike in gear, with the front wheel up grade (so it tries to roll backward if it rolls at all). The last thing I do is pull the bike back toward me to ensure the stand is locked.

I do that too. I never trust it though I've never had anything happen personally. I was always superstitious that it would.

Little known fact is that originally it was called the IFFY stand and someone way back started calling it a JIFFY stand and it took.

mine failed they are a design flaw.
they have been superseded with a new part number
mine did not hit the ground when it failed as I always check.

the new design has more meat on the cam stop.
before you invest in another shiny skull or cup holder I would go and buy a new jiffystand cam thingy.
not a matter of "if" it is a matter of when.
my bike is an 05 electragilde. this happened at 50,000 miles

Ewwww. I never park the bike in neutral. It's like parking a car in neutral and not putting on the e-brake...

Make sure the bolt holds the stand in the bracket is tight. The top plate of the stand is keyed to fit on the stand, and bolted down. That's the only way I could see it riding over the lip and folding back.

Sorry to hear it happened, and at least the damage wasn't too bad, albeit bad enough...
