Road King upgrade: 103 w/ Stage 2 or 120R
Considering an upgrade to my 2011 Road King, either a stage 2 on my 103 or install a 120R and be done with it. Install and 120R with new clutch, etc will run me around $7K. What would a stage 2 upgrade cost using the top tier add ons? Is the 120R really that much more of a bad *** then what i could do with a stage 2 or 3 upgrade on my 103? Thanks for any input!

There is NOTHING to enjoy on a bike with a stock engine.
Your pricing is off for a GOOD install on a 120r unless you figure on doing all the work yourself... which I did a few months ago. With paying $4800 for the 120r itself... I think I ended up at about $6500 in parts. And THAT price... I already had a suitable exhaust.... think $1000 more if you do not. DEALER will scrimp on small things like the clutch for example. I installed a Rivera Pro Clutch.. $500. A dealer will either install a spring on the stock clutch or the SE clutch which one can NOT pull all day long on a ride. Crap like that.
If you have the money... yes... it is a HOOT to ride. Putting around town? About the same as my 107. Out on the road? NO comparison.
It's a LOT more than just looking at dyno sheets... BOTH bike will be crossing 100ft lbs at about 2300-2500. Thing is what dynos don't show on the WOT sheet is what is UNDER that curve (how much power is there at 20% throttle? 10% throttle, etc). NOTHING beats cubic inches is really true.
One thing on the 120r... I recommend changing out those crap SE lifters and install Woods directionals or some Velvet Touch lifters.

I have a 2011 Road King with the 103, Stage 2 with cams and it is plenty fast for an old geezer like me...but I am not a super fast rider anyway....I still get good mileage around 40 per gallon...

Couldn't you sell the 103 to help offset some of the cost of the 120R? Seeing it is not my $$$ - do the 120R! lol

just got my 2011 ultra limited back with 120r engine. put the 103 on the shelf. Smooth and powerful. Got a year warrenty and the price was great .($6800.) Total. Baltimore MD. HD did the install. Moco should put this engine in every bike.

If I had $7000 laying around to do the deal, and I could have best lifters installed, and the clutch issue worked out so no slipping and I would not need a wrist/forearm transplant [ got chronic tendonitis and some arthritis in wrist] I would think that this 120R would be a great touring engine with roll it on torque. I like torque....
Would kick azz over my 103 with 255 cams, and it runs fine too.
