It is actually Maricopa County that requires emission testing, which includes the Phoenix area. We are the only county on the US that requires it.
The state government voted to get rid of emissions testing for motorcycles a couple of years ago. We are waiting for approval from the EPA to no longer require emissions testing, should be no longer required after July 1, 2012..

Yep, Pima got rid of emissons for collectable cars and M/Cs several years ago.

Looks like we are moving to the Phoenix "area" from frozen Western Nebraska (2 below wind chill this morning !).
Questions for the Arizona riders: am I going to run into any problems registering my old Evo ? Looks like they require emissions testing on anything older than 5 years that will be registered in Phoenix OR use to commute to that area. Is the inspection strictly emissions or do they check the pipes for EPA, noise, etc ? Any other issues in Arizona ?
Can't wait to get out of this friggin cold !!

Looked into that, insurance needs a non-PO Box or I've got a problem getting insurance (I think their on to this). If the July 2012 thing happens the subject will be moot.

The emission thing is not that big of a deal. It's for a bikes older than 5 yrs. and testing is every other yr.
I moved here 6 yrs ago from Ohio. I did get a shock when it came to paying for plates. Ohio it was $25. Here it is based on the MSRP of bike. I just payed $160. when new it was $320. for my 08 FLTR.
Insurance was another, but considering we ride all yr compared to a few months back home it is easier to take.
The HOA thing is a bunch of BS Micromanagement most every thing you get busted for is in the city codes. There is plenty of nice areas close to Phoenix without HOA.
Other than that you can't find a better place to ride.
Let us know when you make the move, you'll have plenty of ridding buddies.

You can get away with that, but if you look at your tag (sticker) it should be a different color than those in Maricopa County. It's to let cops know that you're registered out of county and they could bust you for not getting the test done if you're commuting. Just FYI. Chances of getting busted are probably slim to none.
