That dude must have been looking at a line of used bikes made in the 70s which means he knew absolutely nothing about late model Harley's.

Total tool.

ahhh....the days of cake pans and carpet scraps under the bikes.
That's been long ago now though. He must not have been in a Harley dealer for quite awhile.

Back in the early 70's I worked in a bike shop and and if we'd get a jap bike in on trade with any were near 10,000 miles on it you'd just about have give it away as a door prize to get it out of the shop because with those kind of miles every body figured they were worn out and junk. At the time I was riding a chopped 450 Honda that I had 28,000 and nobody could believe it still ran. But nobody would think twice at seeing a HD, BMW or a Brit. bike with 40, 50 or 60,000 miles on it at the time.

I said thank you and asked him if he rode. He said yes, and went on to tell me how he races with some team, has two built race motor gixxers, etc etc but that he really loves the look of a Harley, even though he'd never buy one.

I bit.

"why not, if you like them so much wats stopping you?"

"I'll tell you why, this is what gets me. You walk into a HD dealership and there's all these beautiful bikes lined up and each one of them has a puddle of oil underneath it."

I just nodded in agreement and he left not too long after that. No sense entering a discussion like that
I bet that he doesn't even have a bike!!!

Fwiw the kid couldn't have been more than 25, so if he was in a hd dealership in the 70s he was in his pappy's nut bag.
