I refuse to call a kickstand a jiffystand!!!

Apparently, it was named a jiffy stand about 90-100 years ago when motorcycles first got them and has been called that ever since. The only 'renaming' has been by motorcyclists who never understood it had a name in the first place.

I believe the the first kickstand Harley used was around mid to late 30s with the WLA Flathead bikes that later went on to help win the war. Everything prior was on a center stand. The bikes came with both stands equiped for years. So the way I see it is the bicycle came out way before the "silent grey fellow" (William Harley and Arthur Davidson's first motorcycle ever built). I don't know the history of the bicycle or when it first used a kickstand. But that's what it is. Harley chooses that word, other brands call it what it is. A KICKSTAND!

If you are an old timer Harley rider it is a jiffy stand, period. You youngeters and new-be types call it what you will. I've called it a kick stand but never a side stand, even though it is a jiffy stand...

i've never really thought about it. i've always known it was called a jiffy stand by hd but didn't put much thought into it.. i have a couple buddies at work that ride hd's. i'm gonna try to use jiffy stand in a sentence when talking to them and see what they say. i hope i can do it with a straight face because i'm chuckling just thinking about it.
