The noise advocates say the loud pipes will save a life. I do not agree but good ear plugs will save ears. Why do you want; loud pipes or quiet ears?

As others have already pointed out, wind noise. Almost 2 years ago, I went completely deaf in one ear. Went to bed one night, woke up the next morning and stone cold deaf in my right ear. So, for me, it's about protecting my one good ear so I don't have to lay out $5000 for two hearing aids.

Smart riders wear ear plugs. Smart loggers wear ear plugs (muffs). Smart dozer operators wear ear plugs (muffs). Must I go on? Protecting your hearing is critical to the enjoyment of the others things in your life.

Yes, the wind is what drives most people to wear the plugs, but my pipes are loud enough that I appreciate the noise reduction that the plugs provide under my helmet too.

Don't be an idiot. Wear hearing protection.
